Visiting patients

The following information will help you to plan your visit to a relative or friend who is being cared for at QVH.

Ward visiting times

Ward visiting times are below. Visiting outside of these hours may be arranged in advance at the discretion of the ward manager.

Visiting is not allowed during meal times (12.00-13.00 and 17.00-18.00). This is to allow patients time to eat their meals and ensures that staff are available for patients who need help with eating.

Flowers

Unfortunately, flowers can increase the risk of infection on certain wards because of the specialised nature of the treatments provided. For this reason, flowers are not allowed in the Burns Unit or certain areas of Ross Tilley Ward.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed inside the hospital, in any entrances or doorways or within the grounds except within the designated smoking shelters. These are located in the staff car park behind the estates department, next to the staff development centre and behind Ross Tilley Ward.

Facilities for visitors

Refreshments are available from:

  • the Spitfire Restaurant which is open 7.30am – 3pm weekdays and 8.30am – 3pm at weekends – serving breakfast and lunch, drinks and snacks
  • the Hurricane Café is open 10am – 5pm on weekdays for sandwiches, drinks and snacks
  • the vending machines in the Lancaster Lounge, situated in the Canadian Wing (near Ross Tilley and Margaret Duncombe wards). The lounge is open 24 hours a day.

There is also a convenience store just outside the north end of the hospital site on Holtye Avenue.

There is a cash machine in the main corridor which is free to use.

Local accommodation

We do not have accommodation at the hospital for visitors to stay overnight. Information on local hotels and B&Bs is available at www.eastgrinstead.gov.uk/tourism/accommodation.php.

On Peanut Ward there is the facility for one parent to stay overnight while their child is on the ward – please check arrangements with ward staff.

Wi-Fi

We provide free wi-fi for patients and visitors across the QVH site. Wi-fi hotspots have been installed in all wards and outpatient waiting areas, the café and restaurant.
