Queen Victoria Hospital confirms appointment of interim chief executive

Tony Chambers has been appointed as the interim chief executive of Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (QVH) and will take up the role from 1 February 2023.

Tony is an experienced NHS leader, starting his career as a nurse and going on to hold senior roles in hospitals in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire and in a large integrated health board in South Wales. He was chief executive of the Countess of Chester NHS Foundation Trust for six years and has held interim hospital chief executive roles in East London and Cornwall.

Most recently he has been leading the team that has successfully delivered the opening of the new Liverpool Royal University Hospital in Liverpool. This is the first hospital to open as part of the national new hospitals building programme.

Jackie Smith, Chair of Queen Victoria Hospital said: “Tony Chambers has a very strong track record of working with internal and external stakeholders, and a clear understanding of the balance of progress and stability that is required in an interim role. He is a respected leader, and his values and skills will help us in the next stage of our work to secure the future of Queen Victoria Hospital.”

Speaking of his new role, Tony said: “I am delighted to be joining a trust with such exceptionally positive patient feedback and obviously caring and committed staff. I am looking forward to building on work already underway at QVH to address the challenges that lie ahead and helping to ensure that the excellent clinical care provided by this specialist hospital has a thriving future. I am looking forward to meeting more colleagues in the months ahead both within QVH and within our health and social care partner organisations.”
