Dr Chris Barham
Specialist interests: Informatics, maxillofacial surgery; plastic surgery and difficult airways.
Chris Barham has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at QVH since 1980 and was its first Medical Director in 1993. He is currently Joint Clinical Lead (with Jeremy Collyer) for Information Management and Technology for the trust and chairs the Informatics Clinical Advisory Group (ICAG).
In 1991 he introduced a computerised anaesthetic record system to the hospital which is still in use today – most anaesthetic records in the UK are still kept with pen and paper. He developed the first QVH website in 1997 and was its editor until 2003. He is accredited by NHS Digital in Clinical Safety for IT and is Clinical Safety Officer for the QVH.
In the past he has been a Member of Council of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland and President of the Society for Computing and Technology in Anaesthesia. He was the Clinical Lead for the Southern Programme for Information Technnology and chaired the Southern Programme Information Governance Group (SPIGG).
