Update on land sale and possible future plans for our estate

map of land sold

In 2020 the Trust agreed to sell some unused land on our site to Brookworth Homes, subject to planning permission. The sale of land at the north west of our site, adjoining Oakfield Way, would provide c£2m for investment in our hospital.

On Thursday 18 January 2024 Mid Sussex District Council approved planning permission for 30 homes on this land.

This is an opportunity for the Trust to make improvements to our hospital site for the benefit of both patients and staff. We now have the opportunity to think carefully about what we can do to make the best use of the money for the long term.

The building work will involve the removal of trees on the site to make space for the new homes, but developers Brookworth Homes have worked with the planners to agree how to incorporate some trees into the layout. QVH also owns the woodland to the north of our site, and we have received expert advice on how to enhance this woodland environment to promote long term biodiversity.

The date for building work to commence is not yet known.
