Update on land sale and possible future plans for our estate
In 2020 the Trust agreed to sell some unused land on our site to Brookworth Homes, subject to planning permission. The sale of land at the north west of our site, adjoining Oakfield Way, provided c£2m for investment in our hospital.
Money generated by the sale of the land provides us with an opportunity to make improvements to our hospital site for the benefit of both patients and staff. We are thinking carefully about what we can do to make the best use of the money for the long term.
On Thursday 18 January 2024 Mid Sussex District Council approved planning permission for 30 homes on this land. This summer the land was sold by Brookworth Homes to another developer, Macar. We have started conversations with Macar about their plans for the land to ensure any disruption to our services is minimised.
From week commencing Monday 23 September 2024 Macar will start putting up hoarding around the land, making it ready for building work to begin in Spring. In the meantime they will begin removing trees on the site to make space for the new homes and carrying out some agreed works in the ancient woodland we have retained which will help us enhance the environment and promote long-term biodiversity, based on the independent expert advice we received.
