For outpatients

Thank you for choosing QVH.

Your outpatient appointment letter or card will tell you when and where your appointment is.

Please can we ask that where possible you only bring one person with you to your appointment. If you need additional support please let the team know when you arrive.

If you have any queries, have forgotten your appointment, moved house, or need to change the time or date, please telephone the relevant number (below) as soon as possible. This will allow us to rearrange your appointment for you and to make your original appointment available for another patient.

Please allow two hours for your appointment. While we do our best to keep them on time, it may be possible to carry out any further tests or scans which are necessary, such as x-rays or blood tests, whilst you are here. And if you need to see other specialists we will try to arrange that at the same time, saving you the need to attend again later.

Pre-admission assessment

If you are going to have surgery at QVH, you will need to have a pre-admission assessment, to review your general health and fitness before surgery and to discuss your planned treatment. We normally try do this on the same day as your outpatient appointment, to avoid the need for another visit to the hospital.

Arrival

Our car parks can be very busy so we recommend that you leave plenty of time to park, pay and display before your appointment time.

Parking charges operate Monday to Friday 8am-6pm. The cost is £1 per hour for the first 3 hours, and £4 for a 3-10 hour stay. Disabled drivers (displaying a valid blue badge) and motorcycles park for free. There are no charges at weekends or bank holidays. Payment is by cash, card or Apple Pay.

Use the main entrance located on the left hand side of the hospital site and follow signs to the department stated on your appointment letter or card. If the department is not clear, please call us to check where you should go.

When you arrive in the department, our receptionist will book you in and explain what will happen next. You may be asked to go to another department for tests. Please let the receptionist know if there have been any changes to your personal details since your last visit to the hospital.

We do our best to not keep you waiting for your appointment but we appreciate your patience when delays are unavoidable. We will tell you if there is likely to be a delay.

Your medicines

It is very important we know exactly what medicines you are taking, so make sure you bring any medicines, tablets or inhalers you are using along with you.

If you are prescribed any medicines that you need to begin immediately, you will be able to collect a two-week supply from the hospital pharmacy which is open Mon-Fri, 10am-5.30pm. However, sometimes you might need to be referred back to your GP before starting any treatment.

If you have any questions or concerns about your medicines, please ask our pharmacists. You can call the pharmacy with any queries about medicines you have been prescribed at the hospital on 01342 414215.
