For day surgery
Thank you for choosing QVH. We understand that coming into hospital can be a worrying time, so we aim to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible.
We hope that the information on this page will help you to prepare for your day surgery appointment.
You may be asked to undertake screening or additional precautions prior to your surgery. This is dependent on the type of surgery you are due to have and your history. We will inform you of these if required. They may include swabs for MRSA, Covid Lateral Flow testing or skin body washes.
The day before your operation
You will be contacted the day before between 2pm and 5pm. If you surgery is on a Monday or after a Bank Holiday, you will be contacted the Friday before between 2pm and 5pm.
Your admission
When we call you, your admission time will be confirmed and you will be given information on where you should come when you arrive, and if required, any fasting instructions. If you are taking any medication, inhalers or eye drops please bring these with you.
Your admission time will either be 7.30am or 12.30pm. However, please note your admission time is not your operation time, although you will be seen as soon as possible. We would ask you to please be prepared to be with us for the whole day so bring something with you to occupy your time while waiting. Free Wi-Fi is also available.
Can I bring someone with me?
As waiting space is limited, your relatives or friends may not be able to stay with you whilst you wait. However, we have refreshment facilities available onsite for them to use.
What happens if I can no longer attend?
If you are unable to attend or if you no longer wish to proceed with your surgery, please contact the theatres department as soon as possible on 01342 414522 or 01342 414523. If you are unwell on the day of surgery you can contact the theatres department from 7.30am on 01342 414522 or 01342 414523.
Anything else I need to do before I come?
Accompanying your appointments letter you will have received a surgery questionnaire. Please can you complete this and return it in the pre-paid envelope as soon as possible. Without receipt of a completed questionnaire your surgery could be delayed or cancelled.
