For day surgery

Thank you for choosing QVH. We understand that coming into hospital can be a worrying time, so we aim to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible.

We hope that the information on this page will help you to prepare for your day surgery appointment.

The day before your operation

Please contact the theatre department on 01342 414000 between 2pm and 5pm. If your surgery is on a Monday or after a bank holiday, please contact us on the Friday before your appointment between 2pm and 5pm).

Your admission

When you call your admission time will be confirmed and you will be given information on where you should come when you arrive, and if required, any fasting instructions. If you are taking any medication, inhalers or eye drops please bring these with you.

Your admission time will either be 7.30am or 12.30pm. However, please note your admission time is not your operation time, although you will be seen as soon as possible. We would ask you to please be prepared to be with us for the whole day so bring something with you to occupy your time while waiting. Free Wi-Fi is also available.

Can I bring someone with me?

As waiting space is limited, on occasion, your relatives or friends may not be able to stay with you whilst you wait. However, we have refreshment facilities available onsite for them to use.

What happens if I can no longer attend?

If you are unable to attend or if you no longer wish to proceed with your surgery, please contact the theatres department as soon as possible on 01342 414000. If you are unwell on the day of surgery you can contact the theatres department from 7.30am on 01342 414000.

Anything else I need to do before I come?

Accompanying your appointments letter you will have received a surgery questionnaire. Please can you complete this and return it in the pre-paid envelope as soon as possible. Without receipt of a completed questionnaire your surgery could be delayed or cancelled.

Being picked up after surgery

Once you have recovered from your surgery, your friend or relative can collect you from our theatre discharge lounge. For your convenience, the discharge lounge has a car pick up point right outside.

Wi-Fi

We provide free Wi-Fi for patients and visitors across the QVH site. Wi-fi hotspots have been installed in all wards and outpatient waiting areas, the café and restaurant.
