Work experience placements for 16-17 year olds
Applications for work experience placements will be considered primarily for people aged from 16 to 17 years old who attend school, college or educational establishments on the approved local schools list or live within a 10 mile radius of QVH [Link opens PDF]. Applications will also be considered for children and siblings of staff members who wish to pursue an NHS career.
Placements will be available only during agreed weeks throughout the year.
We are able to offer the placements to the students on the following weeks in 2025:
Monday – Thursday
Option 1: 7 – 10 April
Option 2: 14 – 17 April
Option 3: 26 – 29 May
Option 4: 28 – 31 July
Option 5: 4 – 7 August
Option 6: 11 – 14 August
Option 7: 18 – 21 August
Option 8: 25 – 28 August
Please note:
QVH can only offer a maximum of two students a work experience placement per week and offers will be dependent upon department capacity.
Work experience placements are generally three to four days in length.
Work experience for students under 18 is limited to departments that have been risk assessed as age appropriate. This means that work experience is not available in areas such main theatres, burns ward and critical care ward.

The survey will be open until midnight on Sunday 19 January 2025.
Anyone applying for any onsite work experience at QVH must complete some form of virtual work related experience where available and provide proof of completion.
Please note: QVH is unable to change placement dates or departments at short notice. It is essential that all dates are agreed with the applicants school/college before applying. Once a placement has commenced QVH is unable to change the young person’s placement schedule or departments.
If you are interested in a work experience placement you will be asked to complete an application form remembering to attach your CV, evidence of virtual work experience, and strong supporting statement stating why you would like the placement. Onsite placements are subject to availability, risk assessment and entry criteria being met.
Please note: Applications will only be accepted during the application open period and will be considered by the work experience panel.
