Help to stop smoking
We recognise that quitting tobacco can be very difficult and we want to do all that we can to support our patients on their journey.
We have a dedicated Tobacco Dependency Advisor who is here to help and advise our patients on how they can take the first steps to quit. Our ward staff are also trained to offer brief advice to support our patients to abstain from smoking.
All of our patients will be asked about their smoking status when they come to an outpatient appointment or are admitted to hospital. Whilst some patients may want to try and quit smoking, there will be others who do not necessarily want to but who are required to temporarily abstain from smoking prior to surgery. Our staff are here to help.
If you are a patient or carer please speak to a member of your care team who can provide advice. and put you in touch with our Tobacco Dependency Advisor.
You can also find out more from the national smokefree service online at www.nhs.uk/smokefree or by calling 0300 123 1044 (free) to speak to an expert.
