Minor injuries unit closed Saturday 26 April for essential electrical works
Wednesday 23rd April 2014
In order to make essential improvements to the electrical supply at QVH, the supply to the hospital site will be shut down all day on Saturday 26 April 2014. As a result QVH’s minor injuries unit (MIU) will be closed all day on Saturday 26 April. It will re-open at 8am on Sunday 27 April and resume its usual opening hours of 8am-10pm, seven-days-a-week.
There are alternative MIUs in Edenbridge and Crowborough and walk-in centres in Crawley, Redhill, Croydon and Haywards Heath. These are in addition to the A&E departments at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. If you are unsure where to go, please visit www.choices.nhs.uk or telephone 111 for NHS advice and remember that your local pharmacist can also offer advice if you are unwell.
If you do need to contact the hospital on 26 April, please note that our switchboard will not be operating. The number to call is 01342 322999.
QVH is not scheduling planned surgery or routine admissions in the days immediately before the electrical works to minimise the number of patients on site. A dedicated area, with its own electrical supply, will be established for patients who need to remain in QVH’s care during the works. QVH has been working with its partners in other NHS organisations so that patients can be transferred to other hospitals if appropriate.
Much of the infrastructure at the hospital dates originally from the 1930s. Improvements and upgrades have been made over the years and QVH has recently opened brand new operating theatres and a new outpatients department. The work planned for 26 April will modernise the electrics to some of the older parts of the hospital site.
