Amex get back to nature to help local hospital

Staff from American Express (Amex) swapped the office for the great outdoors when they spent a day volunteering at Queen Victoria Hospital.

The team of 15 from the company’s Burgess Hill office donated a working day to help with a range of gardening and painting tasks at the hospital. This included creating a beautiful area with willow tree, shrubbery and rockery for people visiting the hand trauma unit, and replanting an area outside the Lancaster Lounge coffee room, a popular area for visitors.

There were also some familiar faces in the band of merry helpers, with many returning to Queen Victoria Hospital for a second consecutive year of volunteering.

Steve Dunmall, Head of Estates at Queen Victoria Hospital, said: “It was great to welcome back the team from American Express. Continually improving and enhancing our hospital environment, making it welcoming for our patients, visitors and staff, is really important to us. Thanks to their hard work and determination, we’ve been able to complete some of our projects quicker than planned, in time for the summer sunshine. Support like this from local businesses is greatly appreciated.”

Ruth Felsing, VP Global Head of Indirect Tax at American Express, said: “We spent a very enjoyable day volunteering at Queen Victoria Hospital and were so impressed by the team there. They provided a very interesting overview of the history of the hospital and the wonderful pioneering work that continues there to this day. Everyone working there demonstrated spirit and enthusiasm, giving us a great lesson in caring and kindness, but also reinforcing the value of teamwork and collaboration.”
