Queen Victoria Hospital selected to take part in The Great British Coin Hunt

Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead has been chosen by The Royal Mint as one of only nine NHS organisations across England to take part in its Great British Coin Hunt.

The hospital will be releasing a limited number of special ‘NHS’ design 10p coins from today (Wednesday 11 July) throughout July via its onsite restaurants to mark 70 years since the start of the NHS. Queen Victoria Hospital is the only hospital in the south east of England to have been selected for this special scheme.

Created as part of The Royal Mint’s ‘Great British Coin Hunt’ the ‘NHS’ 10p coin celebrates one of the many things that makes Britain great. To get your hands on one of the special 10p coins, visitors must simply make a cash purchase in one of the hospital’s restaurants (subject to availability) – don’t forget to check your change to see if you’ve got one.

Steve Jenkin, Chief Executive of Queen Victoria Hospital, said: “Queen Victoria Hospital has a proud heritage and is known throughout the world for pioneering new and innovative techniques and treatments, so we’re delighted to have been chosen as one of only nine NHS organisations to participate in The Great British Coin Hunt. We look forward to playing a part in these special ‘NHS’ 10p coins making their way across the south east of England and beyond.”

Anne Jessopp, Chief Executive of The Royal Mint, said: “The ‘N’ for NHS has proved a very popular choice with the public as a Great British Coin Hunt 10p theme. The NHS is a well-respected national institution – most Britons will come into contact with it at some time in their lives, so it was a natural choice.”

Additional coins launched as part of a whole alphabet of special 10p pieces celebrating national institutions include a double decker bus (D), King Arthur (K), queuing (Q) and of course a tea pot (T). These additional letter coins can be found in different locations across Britain – The Royal Mint have created a helpful app allowing coin hunters to create a digital store of their coins and also track down ones they’re missing via a heat map. Alternatively you can buy the coins direct from The Royal Mint.

If you find one of the special ‘NHS’ 10p coins please take a photo of you with the coin and share it with Queen Victoria Hospital on its Facebook or Twitter pages using the hashtag #coinhunt
