QVH colleagues to be part of a special service at Westminster Abbey to celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS
Wednesday 5th July 2023
Staff and volunteers from Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH) are joining long-serving NHS staff from around the country today at a special service at Westminster Abbey today to celebrate the 75th birthday of the NHS.
Together those who are attending the event have devoted hundreds of years of service to the NHS and have been nominated for the work that they do. Attendees will join with senior government and political leaders, health leaders, and celebrities to mark the 75th anniversary of the national health service.
Sharron Phillips, hotel services team leader, is one of five people representing Queen Victoria Hospital at the event. Sharron first joined our hospital in 1986 on a YTS training scheme, achieving national trainee of the year in 1988, before leaving and returning again working on our switchboard in 2009.
But her family links go beyond that – at least one member of Sharron’s family has worked at QVH since 1975. The NHS really is part of her family, and her family part of it.
Speaking about attending the event Sharron said: “It’s a real honour and a privilege to be chosen to attend Westminster Abbey, I just love what I do.”
