Queen Victoria Hospital is an internationally renowned centre for Head and Neck surgery. Join us to hear from members of our Head and Neck multidisciplinary team including Head and Neck Consultant Surgeons, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Prosthetists, Clinical Psychologists, Ward Nurses, Dietitians and Speech and Language Therapists as well as patient speakers.
Day 1 Surgical management of Head and Neck Cancer
- An overview of the Head and Neck Cancer pathway
- Surgical management of Head and Neck cancer including free flap reconstruction
- Nursing management of free flaps in the acute post operative setting
- Emergency management following major head and neck surgery
- Prosthetic reconstruction
- Patient story.
Day 2 Functional outcomes following Head and Neck surgery
- Communication after oral/oropharyngeal surgery
- The normal swallow function and swallow complications after head and neck surgery
- Nutritional considerations
- Psychological considerations after head and neck surgery
- Laryngectomy surgical procedure
- Alteration to function after laryngectomy
- Discharging a patient from hospital after laryngectomy
- Patient story (laryngectomy).
- Intended audience: nurses, doctors, allied health professionals working with or with a keen interest in Head and Neck Cancer surgery.
Day 1 will run on Wednesday 19 March 2025 repeated on Wednesday 22 October 2025. Day 2 will run on Thursday 20 March 2025 repeated on Thursday 23 October 2025.
