Friday 28th August 2026
Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (QVH) has once again been recognised as one of the country’s top-performing hospitals for patient experience, achieving the joint highest overall patient experience score in England in the latest national Adult Inpatient Survey.
The results of the Care Quality Commission’s Adult Inpatient Survey, published this week, asked patients across 130 acute and specialist NHS trusts about the care they received during a stay in hospital. Patients rated their overall experience at QVH 9.3 out of 10, compared with a national average of 8.2 out of 10.
The survey highlights exceptional feedback across a wide range of areas, including:
- Respect and dignity: 9.8 out of 10.
- Kindness and compassion: 9.7 out of 10.
- Confidence and trust in doctors: 9.5 out of 10.
- Confidence and trust in nurses: 9.5 out of 10.
- Cleanliness of wards and hospital areas: 9.7 out of 10.
The survey also highlighted several areas where QVH’s performance stood out nationally. Patients rated the Trust particularly highly for getting people to a ward bed quickly, taking account of patients’ mental health needs, ensuring families and carers had the information they needed to support loved ones at home, and helping patients understand what would happen next in their care after discharge.
The findings reflect the Trust’s continued commitment to delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care, with patients consistently reporting positive experiences during their stay.
Liz Blackburn, Acting Chief Nursing Officer at Queen Victoria Hospital, said: “What makes me most proud about these results is what they tell us about how our patients feel when they are in our care. Patients have told us they felt treated with kindness, compassion, respect and dignity, and that is something every member of our team should be incredibly proud of.
“At QVH we care for people at some of the most significant moments in their lives, whether they are recovering from major surgery, treatment or injury. The fact that our patients have rated us so highly for their overall experience is a wonderful tribute to the professionalism, skill and dedication of our staff.”
Although the Trust performed strongly across the survey, it remains committed to continuous improvement. Feedback from patients highlighted opportunities to further strengthen support around accessibility and individual needs. The Trust will use these insights to continue improving services and patient experience.
