QVH surgeon elected to lead European cranio-maxillofacial association

A consultant surgeon at Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (QVH) has been elected to lead one of Europe’s leading professional associations for cranio-maxillofacial surgery.

Mr Ash Gulati, Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon – Head and Neck at QVH, has been elected Junior President Elect of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (EACMFS), and will serve as its President from 2030 to 2032.

As part of the role, Mr Gulati will also host the 31st EACMFS Congress in London in September 2032, bringing specialists from across Europe and beyond together to share expertise and advances in the specialty.

Mr Gulati is part of QVH’s specialist oral and maxillofacial surgery team, with expertise in head and neck cancer surgery and complex facial reconstruction. Alongside his clinical work, he has a strong interest in education and regularly lectures nationally and internationally.

QVH is a specialist centre for head and neck and reconstructive surgery, with multidisciplinary teams providing care for patients requiring some of the most complex surgery and reconstruction. Mr Gulati’s appointment provides an opportunity to further raise the profile of this expertise internationally.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Gulati said: “I am very humbled and honoured to have been elected President of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery for 2030-2032. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the clinical excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery at QVH and across the wider UK on a global platform.”

Tamara Everington, Managing Director and Chief Medical Officer at QVH, said: “We are delighted for Ash. His election is a fantastic achievement and recognition of his expertise and contribution to oral and maxillofacial surgery.

“It also reflects the strength of the specialist teams we have here at QVH and our long-standing reputation for clinical excellence, education and innovation. We are very proud that Ash will have this opportunity to represent both QVH and UK maxillofacial surgery internationally.”

Mr Gulati was elected following the EACMFS Congress in Athens in September. The association brings together specialists in cranio-maxillofacial surgery and promotes clinical practice, education and professional collaboration across the specialty.
