Pelvic health physiotherapy

The pelvic health physiotherapy service has an experienced chartered physiotherapist specialising in the detailed assessment and management of a range of pelvic health problems, including:

  • Incontinence
  • Prolapse
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Pre- and post- natal pelvic girdle pain
  • Overactive bladder

The initial session consists of a detailed assessment, often including examination of the strength and function of the pelvic floor muscles. Electrotherapy modalities including biofeedback and electrical stimulation are used for some of patients to assist with effective pelvic floor muscle function. We also offer acupuncture to our pelvic health patients, if appropriate, for conditions such as incontinence, urgency and frequency.

If bladder instability is an issue, patients are asked to complete a bladder diary. This allows identification of any potential problems that can be treated with bladder training.

We also offer a self-referral scheme – you can find the forms to complete on the right hand side of this page.

Why choose us?

Patient satisfaction

We pride ourselves on the quality and individual level of care we provide for every patient. To ensure we are maintaining these high standards, we complete patient satisfaction surveys every year.

Some comments from patients include:

“A wonderful service. I felt so much better for being able to discuss these quite personal problems with a caring, supportive person”

“I would definitely recommend this service, I hadn’t realised how easy it would be to resolve the issues I had with such simple exercises. Thank you so much for the tools I needed”

Clinical effectiveness

The effectiveness of the physiotherapy treatment we provide is measured using standardised, validated clinical outcome measures. The main outcome measures used are the MYMOP (Measure Yourself Outcome Profile Questionnaire) and the Quality of Life Score.

The MYMOP showed a 95% improvement in people’s symptoms and 100% of people audited would recommend the service to friends and family. 70% of patients felt their quality of life to have improved significantly following treatment.

Using the Quality of Life Score, 70% of patients were unhappy about their symptoms prior to treatment compared with just 9% following treatment.

How to contact us: We are open for appointments from 8am-4pm Monday to Friday. Our reception is staffed between 8.30am-4.30pm for telephone queries on 01342 414004. Referrals are accepted from health professionals such as GPs and Consultants.
