John Harold

John was born in Liverpool and attended the same school as two members of the Beatles.

He studied Russian at Nottingham University and then went into commerce, firstly with Proctor and Gamble in sales and then Boots in marketing, then moved to the South East in 1976 where he became Managing Director of the English division of an American owned toiletry and pharmaceutical company.

Following retirement in 2011, John first became a volunteer at QVH and then was elected as a governor, returning in August 2024 and subsequently becoming Chair of the Public Engagement Working Group, encouraging members to stand for election as governors and developing a presentation to promote the hospital to local groups and councils. He became Deputy Lead Governor in July 2025.

In his spare time, John enjoys playing tennis and padel, reading and travelling.
