Niamh Gavin
Staff Governor
Niamh trained at St Bartholomew’s Medical School, qualifying in 1998, and spent the early part of her career exploring different areas of acute medicine. A six‑month post in Anaesthesia confirmed Niamh’s passion for the area, and she went on to complete a further 12 years of training – nine of them part‑time whilst raising her three children. She also gained her MRCP and FRCA along the way, and her training then brough her to QVH, where she instantly felt the hospital’s unique warmth and sense of community.
Niamh joined QVH as a Consultant Anaesthetist ten years ago, and has since enjoyed taking on roles such as Paediatric Lead, Simulation Lead and Chair of the Resuscitation Committee. She and her family have also experienced the hospital as patients, giving her an even deeper appreciation of the outstanding care the teams provide.
When the opportunity arose to become a Staff Governor, Niamh was keen to contribute, proud to support and represent her colleagues that contribute to QVH.
