Higher plastic surgery training (HELON)

QVH takes a proactive approach to plastic surgery training. In addition to the formalised and protected teaching sessions, there is a culture of continuing teaching and training on a day-to-day basis. Informal teaching sessions regularly occur, whether in connection with exam practice or during the time between operating cases.

Teaching in outpatients is encouraged, with trainees regularly seeing new patients and presenting the cases to the consultants for further discussion and review.

Protected teaching time is on:

  • The first Monday of every month, plastic surgery teaching on a specific topic – 09.30-12.30
  • Thursday mornings – hand surgery teaching – 08.00-09.00
  • Friday evenings – Mr Pickford hand surgery teaching for those in his clinic – 17.30-18.15

The trust also hosts Annual Pan-Thames training days for regional plastics trainees.
