Mr Mohamed Seif Alaaeldin
Consultant Ophthalmic and Corneal Surgeon

Specialist interests: Cataract and corneal surgery, refractive laser eye surgery, dry eye disease, ocular surface, and external eye diseases.
Mr Mohamed Seif Alaaeldin is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with particular expertise in complex cataract surgery and corneal transplant surgeries, including modern lamellar and endothelial keratoplasty (DALK, DSAEK and DMEK).
Mr Alaaeldin graduated top of his class from the Alexandria School of Medicine in Egypt. He then secured a place in the competitive ophthalmology residency programme at Alexandria Main University Hospital. Following his residency, he pursued three years of focused subspecialty training in cornea, refractive and external eye diseases at Alexandria Main University Hospital and through two clinical fellowships at Southend University Hospital and King’s College Hospital in London.
Since being appointed as an NHS consultant in 2021, Mr Alaaeldin led the cornea service at Northampton and made significant contributions to the cornea unit at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals. In February 2025, he joined Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. With over a decade of experience in ophthalmology, Mr Alaaeldin is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of patient care.
His academic background includes a master’s degree and a PhD in ophthalmology, with research interests focusing on toric intraocular lenses and Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) for keratoconus.
Mr Alaaeldin is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSed) and holds the prestigious Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery (CertLRS).
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Alaaeldin is passionate about teaching and research. He helps train the next generation of eye specialists as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and as a lecturer at Alexandria School of Medicine. He is a regular speaker at regional and international conferences and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.
